Today as I was driving down the road, I saw a man in a chicken suit promoting a business. Now, I don’t know if you’ve ever been to Florida but it’s too hot to be wearing a chicken suit standing on the side of the road – even in December. In Florida it is still hot and humid.
As I drove past this “chicken” I couldn’t help but think of his dedication. This guy didn’t care about being hot. He wasn’t concerned about if he was making a fool of himself, and he obviously didn’t care about what others thought of him. He had one objective – to point others towards a business, and that is what he was doing.
As Christians, we have one objective – to point others towards the Father, but is that what we are doing? Too often we fall short in this area because we are afraid of what others may think of us. Sometimes we think that we don’t know enough and we would just make a fool of ourselves if we tried to talk to others about Christ. Other times we just don’t want to deal with the heat of disagreement and so we simply don’t do it.
Now, I know some of you may be thinking “That guy is getting paid for doing that.” You’re right and he will receive his reward when he gets his paycheck but let me remind you of your reward:
“The one who plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose. And both
will be rewarded for their own hard work.” 1 Corinthians 3:8
“God blesses you when people mock you and persecute you and lie about you and say all
sorts of evil things against you because you are my followers. Be happy about it! Be very
glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven…” Matthew 5:11-12
So I challenge you all. Put on your “chicken” suit. Don’t worry about how it feels, what others will think, or anything else. Let’s be “chickens” for God and point everyone towards Him.
